Autumn in New York

We are home in the good old USA! We arrived on Wednesday evening after a long day of traveling. Its been wonderful spending time with family here in New York before we head out west to our house.

Over the weekend we had the chance to do a couple different activities...

We went apple picking over the weekend at a local farm.

We walked over the fairly new walkway on the Hudson River.

Paul and I walked out to the Saugerties lighthouse.....

....and then checked out the Esopus Falls

Last Day in Athens

Today is our last day in Greece. We head to the airport tonight and catch an early flight out tomorrow morning. We have one layover in Germany for 5 hours and then a 7 hour flight to New York. Excited to be coming home after a long summer!

Athens, Apartment and Acropolis

We were able to locate and rent a small apartment for the week that we are in Athens. Its very basic but we didn't need much. The first day Paul went out and got some food and of course flowers. :)

Here are a few pictures of the place where we are staying:

After a few days of rest we headed out into the city of Athens in the direction of the Acropolis. It was a good 45 minute walk from our apartment. Along the way we came across some ancient ruins.

Finally made it to the Acropolis. Here is Paul standing on the hill where the Apostle Paul talked to the Athenians in Acts 17. Really cool to be standing on the same ground!

Volos to Athens

I am writing this from a little cafe in Athens.
After a pretty eventful train ride from Volos we arrived here at 6:00am.

Here we are crossing the "worst bridge ever" for the last time in Volos.

Marianna and the newest crew member, Ben, walked us to the train station last night.

Trying to sleep on the train at midnight

We were only traveling for an hour before we came to an abrupt halt after hitting a car on the tracks at full speed. No one was hurt but the car was totaled. :)

We all got out and walked down the tracks to another train that took us to the station.

Our second train to Athens was packed full and after searching through 8 cars for a seat we just stood in the hallway not looking forward to the next three hour ride. The conductor passed by not long after and told us to follow him and he let us stay in the children's playroom.
We were so happy to have a place to lay down and managed to sleep for a few hours.

Finally in Athens!

Sail-away #6

So we are done with the summer sail-away season! Our last group was all German. They were  wonderful people to work with and a great way to finish off our time here in Greece.

We are in Volos, Greece now and will head to Athens tomorrow evening. Tonight is the last night on the boat. And so ends our adventure on the Encounter! I'll update when we get to Athens!

Enjoy the pictures from the last two weeks:

Saying goodbye to Jonny at the bus station

Paul was able to go para-sailing!

We all went out for dinner one evening...

The restaurant served goat and they hung a bell for each one...

Paul did some filming for the boat. Here we are sailing around him while he films.

And he filmed some from the bowsprit until he got sick!

Saw a beautiful sunrise....

 A crazy sailing day!!

Paul and Jonny taking the trash into town...

The gaff came out of its lines so Paul had to climb up on the boom and pull it back in!

Paul and I swam to the beach and tried to bring dry towels....

Fresh octopus hanging in one of the cafes!

One last chore before we leave....cleaning the bottom of Theo's rib....
